John Dean does an excellent job of bringing these findings up-to-date using more current studies. In particular he discusses the "Authoritarian" scale - a measure of how strongly a person is motivated to have others follow their wills (dominant type), or how willing a person is to follow a dominant authoritarian (submissive type). It is generally agreed by most sociologists that the Authoritarian scale can largely explain how it was that the German people were able to be manipulated by Hitler and his Nazis, which enabled the rise of Fascism in Germany.
Today, Dean argues with the use of considerable evidence, that a hard core group of authoritarians (of both types) have virtually taken over the Republican party, and today's government, and are moving down some of the same paths toward Fascism - suppression of dissent, secrecy, intolerance of differing opinions, distrust of the democratic process, always needing an "enemy" to hate, and the use of fear as a control tactic. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand what has happened in conservative American politics, and the Republican party in particular, since Barry Goldwater. This book should raise the alarm for all of us to take steps that will not allow the further rise of Fascism in America.>

I am a conservative Republican and I love Liberals without them how can the idea of democracy or america ever exist. We exchange and challenge each other to think on issues. Ofcourse not on Yahoo ANswers...this forum is to just generate hate for each other.

I'm moderate. I hate rednecks and people who believe in absolutes. Anything you know or feel is not 100% how it is and nobody has to feel the came way. It's time to put the past behind you and move on.
