While times have changed, I believe that the Constitution's Bill of Rights should remain.
That being said, our forefathers carried muzzle loading weapons. Our current open ended, anything you want, system needs modification. It is not reasonable for citizens to own automatic weapons or rocket launchers. But shotguns and hunting rifles are OK.

The Second Amendment ensures the Government is still "Of the People, By the People and For the People"
It also ensures your right to the rest of the Constitution.
Sad as it is to lose two children to crime, I'm willing to bet it was not the gun's fault. There was probably some criminal holding the gun. Whatever he was doing was probably illegal, not to mention discharge of a firearm within city limits is illegal. I'm not so sure that another law that the criminal is obviously not going to follow will work. If you make a place free of all guns, then only law abiding people will not have guns. If I were a criminal, I would have great peace of mind knowing that I was the only one with a gun... I could do whatever or take whatever I wanted without worry.

I'm a firm believer that we need the second amendment and will always need the second amendment.
"WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it"
Throughout history,most every alteration or abolishment of government has taken place at the point of the bayonet and the barrel of a gun,and ,as long as human nature remains the same,this fact will never change.no government will willingly relinquish their power simply because someone walks up asks them nicely.guns are a necessary part of our existence.In this age of large scale worldwide warfare,when it comes time to defend yourself,your family,your friends,and your rights,"the pen is mightier than the sword" rarely ever holds true.In fact,I would feel much safer in general if every united states citizen was issued a glock .45 with a full clip and were required by law to carry it with them at all times.If this were the case,the crime rate would drop significantly,simply because who would be idiotic enough to try rob somebody who was carrying a loaded .45.
And while we're on the topic of relinquishing our civil rights,as the days when our serious danger from our government and fellow citizens,then we can get rid of the 2nd amendment.now that we trust our government,we can get rid of the 9th amendment,because who really needs more rights than are in the bill of rights.then after that we can greatly cut crime crime by ditching the 4th,5th,6th,7th,and 8th amendment.once you start giving your rights it becomes a slippery slope till you lose all of them.

Yes, here is why.
Personally I don't own or want one but how do you defend
yourself against criminal governtment if you need to?
You are aware the police are now allowed to break into
your home and that we if not going into ww III will have a
civil war in America?
Not if, WHEN.
Our rights are being slowly removed for a larger purpose than
"terrorism" okay?\
So when storm troopers come to force you to take a chip in the hand
and rape your kids do you think you should have a gun?

The second amendment was written with the intention that citizens could have weapons to defend themselves against the abuses of power from government. The modern weapons that we can use against the abuses of government are no longer guns. The original meaning of this amendment has been long lost.

The best reason for an armed population is to deter tyranny in government. And since the backwards citizens of Connecticut favour socialists fascists to represent them in the Senate...the balance of America is well suited armed!

We still need the second amendment just as we need all of the other amendments. Taking away our right to own guns will not keep guns from the hands of criminals and gangs just as banning drugs does not keep them off the street

And government regulation is going to fix that? By taking away guns from honest people, you only leave guns in the hands of the government and criminals. I personally do not completely trust either one, do you?

If you live in a major city then animals are much closer then that!
Gun control does not work.
concealed carry laws cut crime.
This has been the case everywhere it has been tried, look it up, do some research!

Remember that the 2nd Amendment only protects against federal regulation of firearms.
States are free to pass whatever laws they wish, subject to their own state constitutions.
