do you need a:

big screen HD TV?
a car with anything bigger than a small 4 cylinder?
more than one bathroom in your house?
a fishing boat?
etc.

gun control is NOT about safety its about control. "Assault" weapons (a term invented by anti gun nuts) kill less people per year than knives. Look it up yourself on the Bureau of Justice's website. There are way more guns in the US than cars, yet more people are killed in car accidents each year. No one thinks twice about this, and then if someone legally owns an "assault" rifle people are suddenly afraid they are gonna get shot.

the same reason you may have a room full of hawkeyes paraphernalia, or why some people will spend $1,000 on a ceremic 19 ball bearing fishing reel, or a collection of antique cars. isn't a car much more dangerous than in a gun in some aspects? and dont people kill each other by smacking into a honda civic in a huge truck or driving drunk in a fast car? should we put a bunch of restrictions on what kinds you can buy and how many? hunting weapons are often much more powerful than assault weapons and although many shotguns today are semi automatic, i can shoot my pump shotgun just a tad less fast, and with greater accuracy. should we limit the kind, size ,and number of kitchen knives we have? or just limit the ignorant crazy people that use these tools and toys for destructive purposes?

I don't own a gun of any kind.

But I have a friend who has a gun collection. He spent more than 20 years in the army (active and reserve). He was an MP (active) and trained MPs while in the reserve.

If he wants one, why not?

Do you own a car? Did you know that cars kill more than 40,000 people every year? Did you know that owning cars is not a constitutional right? Do you want the right to own a Jaguar that can go 180 MPH?

I'd trust my friend with an assault weapon more than I'd trust you with a Jaguar.

Who's business is it ,what I own , as long as I use it in a safe and sane manner ?
Some people can't be trusted with car keys or a book of matches.
It's not what you have , it's what you do with it !!
