How do you know if you don't have skills in anatomy and things like that until you try? If you have a good bedside manner, are curious about how the human body works, and can think critically, as well as have steady hands, you are 85% above others in the profession. Give it a try-if it doesn't work, you can specialize in another profession in the medical field. The prerequisites are the same for so many professions.

You'll never get anywhere by following your hearth. It's made of solid brick, and cemented to the foundations of your house! Heck, I guess you might get some inspiration by staring at a fire burning inside it, but don't follow it.

Now following your heart... That's the ticket! When you're doing what you really want to do, everything feels better. You can follow the money, and end up sad and lifeless. You can try to please your sister and end up being used... but if you follow your heart, and do what you want with your life, the worst thing that can happen is that you'll live with the feeling that maybe you've aimed too high. BUT... If you follow your heart, and you succeed, you show everyone that you're better than they thought, maybe even better than you thought. (Don't let it go to your head too much!) and that's a wonderful feeling.

Go for it. There's plenty of fall-back jobs possible with the Natural sciences, and you're probably well qualified for several, but being a Surgeon? If that's what you really want, there's a lot of need for surgeons, and a lot of reward (not just money) in doing it. Nobody ever said following your heart was easy, but it sure is rewarding.

Following a hearth would be difficult. You see, a hearth is made of, usually, concrete, brick and/or natural stone. Since they weigh about a ton or more, I hardly think its going anywhere soon.

Here is some information on hearths...

You should get some onhand experience with patients and open wounds and such. Try EMT-B or whatever and find out if you can deal with whatever your sister is making you nervous about.
