Any country can be thought of as east or west of any other country, depending on which direction around the planet you travel. However common convention references east/west to the shortest route, in which case Germany is east of Canada, Canada is west of Germany.

Well, since the Earth is round, if you head west from Canada eventually you can reach Germany. But geographicly speaking, no it's due East :p

Technically, it is both west and east of Canada. Or north and south. If you keep traveling one way, you will eventually get there.
