Avoid the 50mm or 60mm scopes from either (except for Meade's etx 60 which is ok if small). Otherwise they are both good brands. If you are buying a dobsonian Meade's mechanics are quirky but the optics are good. A lot depends on what you are thinking of buying, but the "which is better, Celestron or Meade?" is a debate which has raged on for years.

They're both good brands. Some Celestron models use metal gears for the drive system instead of plastic which Meade uses. For observing this is not a problem...but if you intend to do astrophotography, the Celestron has a smoother drive because of its metal gears. Check with your dealer on these issues.

its 50/50 i have a meade lx10 8 inch but i have celestron eye pieces but the celestron eye pieces were expensive by standard prices i think i paid about 75 sterling for a 17.5 mm plossl
