Notice the thumbs-down on this question. This really shows it bothers them.

the answer to your first questions is easy... Yes, it angers liberals to hear such things.

the answer to your second question is more difficult... does it anger them because:

1- even mentioning God in public violates their make-believe constitutional right of never having to hear about God; or
2- in their minds, asking God to bless America shows how egocentirc, jingoistic, racist and hateful Americans really are; or
3- they just really, really hate America and don't want anything good to happen to it... cause that would put a damper on all of their whining; or
4- they are just perpetually angry little people.

your guess is as good as mine... i figure it's a combination of all of the above.

I consider myself to be liberal and I am also agnostic. Sometimes it does bother me when people say stuff like God Bless America. Why? Well many reasons but the main one being why would you say that in the first place? Why should god not bless America? What about the other countries and other people of the world? Why is it in the constitution that there should be a separation of church and state yet everywhere I look there seems to be no or little separation? Our president speaks to god? Why is he so special? How come we are "free" yet it is "one nation, under god"? I don't want to change anyone's belief system and I feel everyone has a right to believe whatever they wish but I am sick and tired of religious fundamentalists and those who want to push their religion on me and others who are not interested. Can't I watch a Yankees game without hearing god bless America? Why do so many pro athletes thank god when their team wins? Do they curse god when they lose? Do you really think god wants America to win wars and if so only if we ask for god's blessing? I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that, for now...

As a Christian it upsets me when people say that because it implies that God favors Americans. God loves ALL people, not just ones waving a particular flag or living in a particular place or voting a particular way.

To suggest God should bless one nation is to suggest He should feel that nation is somehow better than others. In God's eyes, human political activity is meaningless, only adherence to the teachings of Jesus matter.

That's my view as a Christian.

From studying other religions I have not found any holy book that lists God's blessings as only being bestowed on locations within certain lattitudes and longitudes.

So that is why I think it's wrong to say "God Bless America." How about "God Bless ALL people, may we all strive to become worthy of the Grace of God and Adhere to His will" instead?

It doesn't anger me- there is nothing wrong with wanting God to bless one's nation of origin. (ie; God Bless Brazil, or God Bless Kuwait, or God Bless Botswana, etc...) It might sound a little narrow in scope however. Wouldn't you want God to bless the whole world so we could all prosper together?

Since you brought up the anger issue, however;
- Maybe what upsets people is if it sounds like you want God to help you work-out some right-wing aganda to destroy (His creation) which is perhaps not a part of YOUR OWN little world, where you don't agree with what you THINK they got over there. Didn't God make the whole world? Do you really know God's mysteries and plans for his children?
God Bless You!
...sounds like you gon NEED it!
Now...enjoy your warm apple pie in relative safety.

No, the thumbs down just means it's a dumb question. I'm a Liberal and it doesn't bother me when someone says that. Most of us are okay with it. The people you see that are upset about that sort of thing are the ones that are so far out of mind that even the rest of the Liberal populous are disgusted with them. Open your eyes and your mind.

I will never understand why people get so offended by that. If you dont believe in God then that is your decision, but I have my constitutional rights to freedom of religion to be able to say God Bless America.

Hi, I am a Liberal!!! Guess what??? It doesn't bother me a bit when people say God Bless America, in fact--I say it myself! Believe it or not, I believe in God!!! I LOVE God--that is why I am a liberal. Why do you conservatives always impute such evil to liberals? Projection.

It angers me because it's a hypocritical statement saying that god bless a country that's under an immoral and anti-xtian leadership. That's why.

I haven't a clue whether it does or not. I LOVE singing that song, as it is in a better tonal range than the "Star Spangled Banner" (which I'll sing, but it is a bit of a struggle.)

"From the mountains,
To the prairies,
To the Oceans
White with foammmmmmmmmm.

Gold Bless America...."

BTW, I am a liberal.
