Google earth is good if you live in a large connotation. For the sticks it is quite blurry on close up. If you do try google earth which is free have a close up look at nelsons column in London.... spiffing detail......

Try Zillow. It will show you a treetop-high view of the house that is positively scary and intrusive. It will also tell you what your house (and your neighbors' houses) are worth in case you are nosy.
Google earth can also show a lot of locations that you enter as addresses or as coordinates and give you a choice of satellite view, road views, or a combo view.

you can try to type in 'Live webcams' or go to the county website of where you live and look up tax records or appraisal info for your property. Then they usually have an option for an ariel view.

Try the US Military, they have lots of satellites and I don't think they're doing much at the moment!

GOOGLE EARTH is your best bet, try it in a library, you can meet people there because they will want you to help them find their house:)
