I'm 24 and have never worn makeup regularly. I'm about to get a nice professional job, however, where I'll need to wear at least a little bit so that I can look polished and clean instead of a freckly flower-child. However, I've never been very good at putting on makeup, and I don't want my mom to show me how--because quite frankly, her makeup scares me. Does anyone know some good sites/places/tips for me to learn makeup application? I'm really inept at this sort of thing. Hairstyles are good, too, as I've always just worn my hair down or in a ponytail. Thanks!

If you rarely wear make-up and just want to look professional, I would start with minimal. Try some mascara, eyeshadow, and lipstick.

Mascara - You don't have to have the "Ultra X-tend Multilash" kinds of brands, just simple black or brown (depending on your natural hair color. Light blondes should wear brown usually.) Hold the wand right in front of your eye and blink. Keep doing this until you see all your lashes are covered. Try to blink as little as possible for a few minutes after you apply to allow it time to dry.

Eyeshadow - Just a little color on your lids is good. There are plenty of eyeshadow "gift sets" with half a million colors. Get a cheap one of these if you wear lots of different colors. If you primarily wear one color (like for me, green), find a little set of shades with that color. I would reccommend also finding a brown set with brown and a skin color. Eyeshadow's not too hard, just wipe it onto your lids. I would suggest putting it on before your mascara, though. Makes it easier.

Lipstick - Oh, this is fun.... It would be best to go to a department store with the make-up stands and asking the worker to reccommend a shade. It's so hard to find just the right one, so be prepared to look. Once you know about what color to look for, go ahead and buy it at the drug store. Just Maybelline or such will do fine. You don't have to have the expesive brand. Lipstick is definately the easiest to apply. :) I'd suggest keeping it in your purse through the day, too.

Hope this helps!

www.covergirl.com will help. Reconmendations in shades and styles.

For a profesional look, simply wear a bit of mascara, face powder, and lipstick or gloss (deeper shades look more sophisticated). But honestly, if you really just don't have the time, swiping on a burgundy or red lipstick will always make it look like you've put effort into your makeup-very proffesional looking. It's as simple as that.

For hair, keep it up, or at least back and away from your face. A french roll is quick (aprox 5 min.) and sophistcated, but interesting and more youthful than the bun. I used to do it all the time until I cut of my 11 in. of hair and donated it. :) www.ehow.com can give you instruction on how to the French roll. (as well as anything else)

Cosmo, Cosmo, Cosmo. I learned everything I know about makeup from reading that magazine. A department store cosmetic manager wanted to hire me one day when I was just walking around the store just because she thought my makeup was "stunning". So it's best to teach yourself. Don't go to the Dept. Stores for a makeover because they will use every freaking product on you in the attempt to make sales. They will overdo it and scare you from ever wanting to wear makeup (happened to me). So teach yourself--you know what you want to hide and want to accent better than anyone else.

Start off using natural colors for your skin tone. You CAN have the makeup girls match your skin for foundations and powders, or to try blushes and eyeshadows to find what shades u like.
Always use waterproof mascara at least at first. When you aren't used to wearing it, you'll smudge it creating the raccoon effect because you'll forget you have it on.

Also make sure you have a good brushes (at dept stores most times they are included) and a good remover to avoid clogging pores.

When you become a pro at applying makeup, it'll be such much fun trying new techniques and colors. Good luck on your new job and your new look!

I wear make up regularly and I learned how just by doing it everyday. Go with easy to apply stuff. For instance. Don't wear foundation. Get concealer and a loose powder. Apply concealer under eyes and on red places lightly. Then an easy eyeliner. Then loose powder all over (including neck) Then a clear lip gloss. You'll look like yourself...just polished.

I'd say go to a Mac store if you have one close, if not go to any Body Shop or perhaps even Department store. They all have specialists trying to sell you stuff, so they are more than happy to show you how to apply it. Don't feel pressured into buying their whole line, sometimes you can find similar stuff at a better price somewhere else. Make sure to ask lots of questions when you are there, so you can learn even more!

lol you look great how you are, but if you wanted to learn to do makeup i say go to www.bonebell.com, its slighty childish, well not really , but it has some really good tips for specific looks. Remember, that makeup should look natural. quicktip: when applying eyeliner, make it look as little like a 'line' as possible, smoky and smudgy is good. you can achieve this by putting on eyeliner (pencil kind is best :P) in short strokes instead of drawing on a thick ugly line. hope this helps. good luck :D

When you are in the Mall, check out the makeup areas in major
stores, most times when the staff is not busy, you will receive
a free make-over - - with instructions.

Another way may be to have a Mary-Kay party with a few
close friends, also they will discount your purchases or just
give a few freebies.

good luck
