Great question. It supports the troops in the sense that it implies "I will not question the war or the president." Obviously it requires little sacrifice on the car owner's part. Perhaps its a way of supporting the country without actually doing anything.

Here is a question: if supporting the troops meant immediate financial sacrifice, who would line up? How many of those with the bumper stickes would sacrifice $100 per week?

I think there may be some people who would like to wrap a yellow rope around your pencil neck.....to show support for the troops

It may show that you are supportive...but the people you are actually supporting are the companies that produce the stickers. That's where your money goes when you buy the sticker.

Anybody can put a sticker on their car. What takes guts is to be like John Murtha and ask the hard questions. Like is this war necessary? If we are going to ask young people to die, it better be for something real.

No, it's an empty gesture... It's about as pointless as marching in a parade to protest anything- those things are just a celebration of your own self and your beliefs. I think it's totally self-centered, which is against the whole point- to support something other than yourself.

If any of the troops are gazing information clips on the information superhighway and they see vehicles driving behind the info reporter with that sticky label it sends a message the troops that human beings assist you. * assisting the troops does no longer equivalent agreeeing with the conflict. *

Yes it is. I believe when our troops come back from overseas and see that we are putting out yellow ribbons for them it does help them.
