He is on the good side, his proceeds from wrestling go to an orphanage and he is trying to help out others. (According to an ending in either Tekken 2 or 3)
His brother I believe is Armor King, who has some kind of problem at the end of Tekken 2 or 3, and Armor King may be evil, I'm not sure.

according to my friend...
King from tekken 2 was good. since he decided to help the orphans after the tournament
And King the second fought to retain King's honor in tekken 3. So he must be good.
He then fights to destory Kraig on tekken 4. So it seems neutral.
and I have no idea in tekken 5 and dark reveloution.
so I have to say he is neutral right now.

King fights for the good and has good heart although he is tainted by his mentor Armor King's death he realises revenge is not a path he should choose and still fights for the "lightside" as you say.

the king in tekken 1 is different to the others as he died after the first one but he is a good guy he helps orphans. he only seems evil as his stepdad (armour king) got killed
