They lip synch....With all of the scene changes itr would be ifficult to start and stop the band and singer a the correct moment, and then start it up again without sounding choppy...also, if you notice live songs always sound somewhat different form the radio versions, and on the videos they sound just like the radio version, so they just lip synch to what they have already recoreded...hope this helped!

Well, both. The singing you hear during the video was not recorded when the video was shot. You are hearing the track from the CD, as it was recorded in the studio.
However, when artists perform for music videos, they often sing along with the pre-recorded track. When you lip sync, it doesn't look the same as when you really sing. You don't use certain muscles in your neck, for example. So usually the artists really sing.
But you don't actually hear that singing when you watch the video.

its a bit of both....they have to lip sync or sing without using their voice in order to be on time with the actuall music playing in the background otherwise it won't look right. they can't sing louder than what the stage people are playing the music which is realy loud because we have to be able to hear the music in the video.

mostly lip sync. They record different video clips and in final production, they layer the finished song over the audio from the tape.

The priority in filming a video is not the music, it is the three or four minute film they are making. So, the music is prerecorded. They may actually be singing while making it but what you hear was not recorded while filming.
