What a great idea! If teachers are required to pass proficiency tests, shouldn't Presidential candidates have to prove that they possess basic knowledge in a variety of areas?
It would probably require a constitutional amendment however, and I don't think it would stand much of a chance since two-thirds of the states would have to ratify it. And I suspect that a lot of those in red states who voted for Bush would contend that "the Bible don't say nuthin' bout all that fancy readin' an writin' and stuff".

NO!! That would be a violation of out Constitution. Also, your first respondent GoldNheart is beyond ignorant. For her edification, President Bush is a graduate of Yale University, no small achievement. Has GoldeNheart ever come close herself? Of course, she is not President of the Unites States either.
Chow!!

No. The office of the President is one that should be held by the common man. This common man will ideally hold a good amount of common sense. Think about it. Who would make a better President? A Harvard educated businessman or a corn farmer from Nebraska? I am leaning towards the corn farmer… but that’s just my personal opinion.

Yes there should be
There also should be a basic skills and facts test for people who want to post in this category. Lots of people who post here would not pass just as Bush would not.

I believe this president has the credentials for the job. I would like to see a moral barometer test myself. We would have never had to deal with the clintons then, nor in the future.

There definitely should be a test. Speaking ability, pretzel-eating skills should be added to that list of tests.
I don't think Bushy would be in office right now.
