dumb arsse hillbilly rednecks get upset over it, and the politicians know this. So, every election year, they get all the morons in an uproar over a flag protection amendment to the constitution, which brings them out in droves to the election booths. They also get the opportunity to point to their opponets that voted the amendment down.
The flag stands for freedom. One of those freedoms is the freedom to oppose the government and demonstrate (or at least it was until the Bush adminstration took over). If burning the flag is how best to express one's opinion of the current government, then the flag that represents the constitution should protect that individual. Until some dumb arsse hillbilly redneck sees it, and then promptly kicks the sh!t out of said burner.

yes, it is not the flag, but what it represents. Burning the flag is a sign of disrespect for the country overall. If someone has a problem with an elected administration - can't they chose a picture or something like that to better define who they are pissed off against? I have to admit that when I see terrorists burning the American flag and calling for death to Americans.. I get upset- don't you? It is quite similar.

This country's flag is a symbol of what this country stands for,and unless you have fought for and under that flag how can I expect you to understand its true significances. The people that say its only a flag have no clue about loyalty or standing behind your country and preserving its principles.Yes its a symbol of democracy and our American way of life and I would never disgrace my self or my country by standing idle as some one burned our symbol in protest,or raised another country's flag above ours in this USA.Be prepared flag burners there are a lot of Americans that feel the way I do.
I am neither a redneck, hillbilly,or from the south.I am a college educated business owner that know what freedom means and your name calling doesn't speak well or you at all.
People from England I'm surprised at your answers,I wouldn't have put you in the same class as the French but I see that's where you placed yourselves

Flags represent an entire country, not just the government. People burn flags precisely for the reason that it upsets common people. What is the purpose of that?

We have been taught that it is not only a flag. It represents the country, and people take it very seriously. It is a matter of respect.
I personally am disgusted with the administration, but I understand where the anger over burning flags comes from.

grant it they might be pissed at the admin. But for those people that have put their lives on the line to defend this country such as myself, It is more than just a flag it is a symbol of why we fight to protect your rights to do stupid things like that. So next time you see a flag burning think of all the vets who fought to defend your rights to do it and instead of burning the flag, tell the vets thank you.

Well, Im not an american but I believe they get angry because people are burning one of their most loved symbols... ok, so americans can use the flag as underpants and jeans and all, but one thing is joking about it, the other thing is 'dessecrating' it.. so, I believe many americans get angry not at the fact of flag-burning (its just cloth, but cloth that means something to many) but at the feeling it conveys... its their symbol and they feel insulted-threatened-abused if someone messes with it in such a violent way.

When I see someone burning my flag(and no its not my flag personally but the flag of my country)..it bugs me to a point because of the great disrespect that it means. It also shows a freedom that we have. If you go to China and burn a flag you will be killed.

It's all a part of respect for our country. The only time it's appropriate to burn a flag is when it's being retired, and even then it should be done respectfully.

Not sure how many people actually get bent. It bugs us more when other countries do it as a sign of hate. Personally, I don;t care. Funny thing that retired flags get burned instead of being thrown in the trash
