My kids started loving Christmas and Santa and all that goes with it at 2. The loved seeing family and friends that we don't get to see to often and they really loved Christmas dinner and when they saw the gifts under the tree they lit up it was great. And when my son was 2 he asked why we get presents when it is Jesus birthday so they know the meaning behind Christmas. I didn't get my son much of anything when he was 1 just clothes and a few baby toys they like ripping the paper more then anything.

I say save the big presents and the santa stories for later. My oldest is 4 and she really enjoyed Christmas 2005. Before that she had no clue what was happening and enjoyed the wrapping and bows more than the toys. Her sister was just 2yrs old that Christmas and had no idea what to think of all of it. I know that this year will be so much better and so much more exciting!!! I also plan to go broke ;-) Enjoy the 'easy' holidays while they last because soon she will be asking for an ipod!!!

At 1 they love the tearing open of gifts
At 2 they love the gifts underneath the wrapping
At 3 they love the concept of Santa, etc
At 4 they love imagining what they are getting
At 5 they love Christmas.

Once they start school it is very likely some of the older kids will start whispering that Santa is fake and it goes strange until the kids make up their minds.

I think the proper age they enjoy Christmas would be definitely at least 3 years of age. Maybe two if the kid understands the concept. I know my little niece who was three she absolutely loved her past Christmas. My daughter is going to be 2 in December but I don't think she will even know how to unwrap the gifts. Maybe something small like toys for her age but don't exceed the limit. Kids will not even remember so save yourself the money and avoid the big Christmas. I'm not saying to cancel Christmas but to celebrate it as you would but possibly your daughter won't enjoy it as much until she is older.

My little girl had fun when she was two, but it was overwhelming for her. I think we let her open presents a little at a time all day long, she's the only child in the family for both sides so everyone goes a little overboard. Last year, 3, she really got into it and wanted to see Santa. I can't wait for this year!

Well I would think that they start to understand about 3 because my cousins son is 3 and he is the perfect age and he believes in Santa.

My son really started enjoying it when he turned 4. Started understanding Santa stuff when he was 3, but alot of his understanding came from his older siblings.

Not when they're 1 years old, they don't really understand what's going on. I say when they're around 3 and above they'll start to enjoy the magic of Christmas.
