this is my first baby and i'm currently 8 weeks pregnant. I'm just wondering what all is going to happen at the appointment, and if I need to do anything extra to be prepared so everything goes smoothly.

they will do a pap and they will examine your breasts. Ask all sorts of questions. They will dertimine your due date, and some will do a ultra sound depending on the situation. have fun at the doctors and Congrats on your new little one.

They are going to have you pee in a cup and check I think its protein and sugar, they will weigh you and see your height. They will go through a list of questions and review the ones you went through before about family history on both sides. They will do a pap smear to make sure everything is normal, they will also do a pelvic exam to make sure the baby will have room to do a natural delivery, go over any questions that you may have, and last but most important they will use the dopplar to hear the babys heart beat, I was 12 weeks along so I dont know if they can hear it that early on, they prob can but it will prob be hard to find it, but dont panic if you dont hear it! It will be normal. Make sure you take your husband!!! I didnt take mine cause I thought they were just going to do the pap and pelvic and I really didnt see that he needed to be there because I didnt think they did anything else and I didnt know that they did the dopplar.....so I heard the babys heart beat without him and I am still really upset about it. Now your very first inital appointment they just go over family history and stuff and all your paperwork and give you a bunch of literature, so the one I describe was my second appointment after I did all the paperwork....Hope all goes well congrats!!!

First of all Congratulations!!!! What exciting times you are entering.
Just take a nice shower to make sure you are clean, they will do a preg. test to be 100% sure, a pap and breast exam and, a urine test to see if you are spilling proteins, check your weight and blood pressure. They will ask details about you and the father's health and sexual history as well as drug and alcohol usage. They will if not this time but next time measure your tummy, from your navel to the fundus of your uterus to record the growth.
They will ask lots of questions and so should you at this time. Relax and try to stay open to all theyw ill ask you and tell you. They will do an ultra-sound. It may be external or internal. My first one was internal, they will stick a ultrasound probe inside of you and move it around to see the baby who may look like a peanut or nerds candy cartoon charactor. (very cute) make sure you get a copy of that first picture. Then they will check for the babys heartbeat and other signs of llife and health. IF you do not hear the heartbeat do not worry they will be able to next appointment. I heard our daughter's at 10 weeks plain as day, was very exciting!!!
You may have in office tests for blood glucose amung other things and will do that a few times during the course of your preganancy.
Just relax and pay attention to the details, try to pick up pamphlets and maybe a book like what to expect when you are expecting, which is a very good book and I read it everyday.

There will be loads of paperwork to fill out, you'll be weighed and you'll have to give a urine sample (get ready because you'll have to do a urine sample EVERY time from now on). You might get a pap smear depending on if your doc does that or not and you'll probably be asked when the date of your last period was so they can give you a due date.
Your doctor will probably send you home with some booklets and whatnot about pregnancy and that sort of thing, and you'll get an appointment for a month from today.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant my first appt they did a diabites test,pap smear and chk my brest for any lumps, expect to be there for a while since this is ur first appt they usually take longer than the follow ups oh yeah there going to chk ur urine also just to comfirm your pregnant they may even draw some blood, and chk ur blood pressure give u some iron pills if ur blood is low. I just had my first appointment a couple of weeks ago. They did a pap smear, checked your breasts, lungs and heart. Then they checked the babies heart rate (sometimes they won't be able to find it), then they did an ultra sound. After that they'll talk to you about your health and your diet. So it's just like when you go get a pap smear but add the ultra sound to it. Congrats and good luck!

You might get to listen for the heartbeat, which is very exciting, but they don't always hear it this early.
Your doctor will have lots of questions about your health and gynelogical history so come prepared for that. Also they will ask about family health history.
They will get your weight and do some routine blood and urine tests.
The internal exams and pap smear don't usually come until a little later.
If you have questions, write them down so you won't forget!

on my 1st appointment they checked my blood pressure, the baby's heart beat, weighed me, blood work , asked me lots and lots of questions and i pee in a cup. we talked alot he answered all my questions. the 2nd time he done a pap smear, a ultra sound, checked all of the above again. what to do to make things go smoothly, make sure u r clean, take a shower/bath, think of things you need ask him. most of all relax this isn't any women favorite thing to do. it is embarrassing, but he/she does this for a living so they see's women parts all day long. lol. you don't have anything they never seen befor.

Hi, they may examine you inside, hard to say. They will weigh you, have you pee in a cup, ask you questions about things like morning sickness. Blood pressure, pulse readings. It is pretty simple visits until later on in pregnancy when they need to examine the cervix.

you need the date of your last period and the doctor will be taking a preganacy test for his records and other test maybe,you will be given a prenatal viatimin a prescripition, you need to go get wick as soon as possiable and start eating good for your baby. the other tests is ,height,weight,blood pressure.
