I have a dozen tattoos or so. It really doesn't hurt much - kind of like being repeated poked with a sharpened pencil, so it's sore and a little painful, but not too bad. Afterward it just feels like a sunburn for a little while. If you have to take painkillers, you should probably just not get a tattoo. Plus, painkillers can thin the blood and make the tattoo not "take" as well, fading over time.

Unless you are getting a giant backpiece, there's not as much as you think to "endure".

Hello potential person who is interested in getting a tattoo. I can understand your hesitancy because it can be a painful experience. Every persons response to pain is unique. If you are a sensitive person who feels pain intensely, speak with your tattoo artist about your concerns. Taking a small amount of vidocin (a narcotic by prescription only) or perhaps doing some meditation to help you relax could be beneficial. Anxiety can be a huge stressor when making the decision to get a tattoo because it is the fear of what the pain "might" be can make a person tense and perceive the pain from the needle more intensely. Helping yourself be more relaxed and decreasing the stress about how the pain will be is very important. Also, the size of the tattoo and the location is very important. Again, discussing this with an experienced tattoo artist is what you should do prior to getting the tattoo. This is a very important decision because this tattoo will be on your skin for life. I have had many friends make this decision and are happy about the tattoos they have. Yes, there was pain involved but after the first few minutes you become used to the pain and as long as it isn't a large tattoo you can tolerate the pain. Also, having someone there or allowing yourself to be distracted during the experience can help with the short term pain that you might experience. Good luck to you and I hope this helped.

A reputable licensed Tattoo Parlor will/should not apply a tattoo if the person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. And any place that would I'd think twice about having it done there, if they would apply a tattoo under the influence then they will use tainted needles or worse.

I have 2 myself and both were done without any artificial stimulant and neither hurt as they were applied or afterwords. If you are in the frame of mind to get one then it won't bother you.

When your getting a tattoo your not supossed to take any medication, drug or alcohol. This is because your blood becomes watery and it can make it dificult for the tattoo artist to do his job with all the blood getting in his way.

Tattoos don't hurt, it is just a little sting, while your in the middle of getting it done the area becomes numb and you won't feel it that much.

Of course it would dull the pain. If I ever planned to get a tattoo I'd probably also get a few Vicodin to help me through.

BUT--for many people the pain is the whole point of the tattoo. Your natural endorphins will be released and it is a RUSH.

A lot of tattoo places will refuse you if you are obviously either drunk or under the influence of narcotics (which vicodin is) It is painful, but not horribly so. Try getting one on a part of your body that has more meat on it, and it will hurt even less.

they don't hurt that bad.. if you really want one.. you'll deal with the pain and the life long art on your body.. if you have to take vicodin.... you're not mentally ready for one. certified tattoo artist wont perform on someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol. you can take the vicodine..one's you leave to help you deal with the day after pain! :D best of luck.

There's no need for any pain reliever to get a tattoo, at worst it feels like a bee sting and only for a short time.

Getting a tattoo really isn't that bad. I took two asprin a couple hours before I got mine and I survived. Afterwords, it just feels like you have a bad sunburn.

absolutely not

as a matter of fact, that could be the worst thing you could do, youll bleed a lot more, and theres a larger chance youll pass out

just go in and get it done, sans pills or alcohol

besides, they probably wouldnt tatoo you anyways if they suspected youwere under the influence of something

depending on how respectable your parlor is
