It's in his memoir, "Running with Scissors". There's a passage in it where he describes being at his mom's therapists house and everyone is laughing because the dog is licking their grandson's erect penis (kid is a toddler). I can't stop thinking about it and feeling sick to my stomach! Why is this bothering me so much?

because it shows no empathy from the adults and they are allowing, almost a sense of perverse sexual exploit on a child, be humorous to them, when as adults they should be protecting the child.
Its pretty gross I think too.Adults should be protecting and taking care of kids not laughing at them when something wrong happens.

Because it is really irresponsible parenting and child abuse and it bothers you because you are normal. If you were raised with out being abused, stuff like that will always seem weird and disturbing to you.
1) go take some deep cleansing breaths.
2) remember that you don't have to finish the book. If you're not reading it for a class just put it down and go on to some thing else.

Your reaction is probably exactly what the author was hoping for. A lot of writers go for the 'horror' aspect of abnormal behaviour to illicit a reaction in the reader. It's not uncommon for a writer to think of something truly base and perverted to gain attention. I wouldn't read any more if I were you. The book really isn't that good, anyway.

Aren't you more disturbed that the movie version of the book is being marketed as a 'feel-good' comedy?

Because it is disturbing especially if a bunch of adults are enjoying they scene.
