I also change every 3000 miles, use full synthetic, and also use a high performance Fram Synthetic oil filter. I could go longer but since I change the oil myself it isn't that expensive. The filter is high flow. I mostly use synthetic for better lubrication and for temperature extremes. I also get better mpg because of lower friction in my opinion.. I rarely buy name brand oil though. Get a generic store brand. It coudl be from Quaker State or Mobil and you don't know it.
Happy motoring.

First of all motor oil last longer if your oil capacity is larger because it is capable of trapping more dirt at a time.

Speaking from my personal experience.
My car is 10 years old. The manufacturer says to change the oil every 7500 miles, and to use 5W-30.

When I talk to the dealer, he says that since my car is older and has more than 150K miles that I should move up to 10W30 motor oil because it is thicker and will help the higher milage engines. They also tell me that it is a waste of money to change my oil every 3000 miles like some of the oil change places tell you to. This car holds 6 quarts of oil and can handle going longer between changes. The dealer say to change the oil every 5000 miles. So thats what I do.

Back to your original question, 15,000 mile oil doesnt work, and you should not expect it to be a warranty.

7000 miles should be the max provided that your car can hold more than 4 quarts of oil.

The full synthetic oils are the best because they are designed for higher milage cars.

You better change motor oil every 3000 to 5000 miles. This is not because the motor oil cannot last much longer. The main reason to change the motor oil is "gunk". As the pistons move and bearing rotate they produce a very fine, very abrasive "metal dust" (gunk) that is suspended in the oil. Some of the gunk is removed by the oil filter, but most stays in your oil causing excess wear of your engine and lower mileage. You are going to pay extra in gas, far more than you supposedly "saved" on oil.

We bought our Echo brand new and immediately started using synthetic oil. We have changed to the amsoil oil that is changed every 12,000K and we usually end up going over this by a couple of hundred K. We never had any problems and have had our car for 6 yrs. When the oil is changed it is still really clean. We've been told by the dealership we could probably go a little further, but would need to change the filter in between and top off the oil. We've recently started using the 40,000K amsoil oil, but will have to change the filter every 12,000K and top off the oil. We have over 250,000K on our car. Amsoil oil is the only oil I would trust with the promises it makes. How long you get on your oil depends on the age of the car and what has been used in it so far.

Well, even if your motor oil were to last for 15,000 miles (which means it won't chemically break down) your oil filter will not. So, the problem is you will have oil that is filled with all kinds of dirt and grime in it that will cause more wear on engine parts, and making the oil more viscous.

Go with synthetic motor oil. It's so much better for your vehicles engine. May be a bit more expensive, but saves you from troubles in the long run.

(p.s.- no motor oil protects to 15,000 miles. That's just ridiculous.)

Yes and No. Synthetic oil will hold up longer than petroleum based motor oil. However lubrication is only part of the job oil does. Your motor picks up other small pieces of dirt as you drive. Place a single grain of sand in your hand put regular oil on it and run your finger over it. Clean your hand and then repeat with synthetic still feel it?
I run synthetic oil but never go more than 7,000 miles.

I wouldn't ever wait 15,000 miles to change oil. Any good mechanic will tell you that you should always change your oil at 3,000 miles because it's what's best for the car. That filter will get seriously effed up after that long!!!

I went to nascar tech insitute in mooresville nc. from wat i was told there from my instructor. the same oil buy for 1.50 per quart is the same thing as valvalene which my say help prevent cold starts or last longer that cost 2.50 and higher. the reason being is that adding alot of addictives to the oil will actually hender the overal quality of the oil. it just a lil mind trick to make u pay for name brand products. also example. you get an oil change like for the same concept of changing a baby. if u do alot of stop and go's, long driving, haulin, racing or any other appilcations than can be stressful to the engine, the oil is goin to wear slightly quicker.
