I have no idea what the next disaster will be, but you can bet that IF the Republicans are behdin it, AND they think they are in political jeopardy for this year's elections, it will happen before the elections.
I personally think the whole thing is a sham of some kind. I don't pretend to know all the answers, but think about this this from a basic, investigative point of view:
Evaluate means, motive and opportunity. Ask who benefits from what is happening in this "War on Terror" (which is as unwinnable as a war on gdrugs or poverty). Who has been the recipient of the benefits?
It's not Iraq. It's not Osama. It's not Afghanistan. It's not any Muslim nation. They're all in the crapper because of this. So what benefit has been found and who has received it?
Ask who has the means. Who could arrange all these complex plots and attacks in Europe and the US. Is it likely that it's a single man who needs dialisys treatments all the time and who is most likely dead already due to the idea that just showing up in a hospital would let people know where he is? Or is it more likely that it's someone or some group with more resources and logistical ability than Osama?
Ask about opportunity. How likely is it that all the circumstances leading up to the Sept 11 attacks could have come together without error for 19 separate individuals over a period of years without discovery?
And then ask why the Secret Service, when they KNEW the US was "under attack" and that the President was within easy flight distance of an airport, did NOTHING to whisk him to safety while he read "My Pet Goat" to the kids at Booker Elementary School?
Something does not add up, and the only thing I feel certain of is that the official story is wrong in many, many ways.

Well, since you seem to be unaware of this document called the Constitution, which created the US government, and which enumerates (for you Dems, that means it names one by one) each of the powers of the federal government. There are additions to this Constitution, called Amendments, and the 10th one states that whatever powers are not specifically listed in the Constitution are reserved for the States and / or the people.
This preface is so that you understand that when I say that healthcare, in fact charity (welfare) of any kind is not listed as a function of the government, it means that it is not the government's responsibility to do anything about this.
Sure this is a very simple treatment of the subject, but most of you Corkys seem so unaware of the basic facts surrounding the US government, is seems necessary to go slow and use small words.
There is no place in there that calls for taking money from one person's pocket and giving it to another in the form of social security checks, food stamps or health insurance. That is called, rightly, 'theft' and believe me, that is immoral.
You call the liberation of millions of people and the overthrow of a brutal and bloody tyrant an expensive disaster and immoral.
What do you call the liberal War on Poverty? In an unConstitutional (illegal, therefore immoral) program, trillions have been wasted, and has resulted in more, not less, poverty. This encompasses a significant part of the foolish welfare state. Can we finally declare victory and stop that war?
As for Bush's incompetence, that exists only in your fevered brains - you allege this, but you prove nothing.
And, Jimmy-boy, you know that I will say stuff in front of everyone, if I so choose, don't you?

While government run health care is a very bad idea, I will say that the war in Iraq has been one mistake after another. There will never be peace in that region, never has been. They've been killing people for thousands of years. If they don't have a common enemy, they are just as content killing each other.

I would like to see the Ogallala Aquifer dry up. This would usher in another dust bowl in the Midwest. Creating an opportunity to ship all grain production to a 3rd world country.
Imagine the profits ADM and Cargill could make it all grain was grown without regulations with minimum labor costs.

"We also have 48 Million Americans with no health insurance"
There is no provision in the US constitution for the government to provide health insurance. If you can show me where it says they have to provide insurance I will call my congressman right now and demand they get working on it. Would you go up to a perfect stranger on the street and just ask them to just give you stuff? That is exactly what your doing now.

with all due respect, i am a liberal, and i do agree with much of what you are saying in this question. i do think that the Iraq War has gone on for too long and that we approached a situation before knowing exactly how to resolve it, and so now we are embroiled in a conflict that we can't get out of. i fear for our soldiers, and for the future generations of this world.
However, if you want people to truly respect your opinion and honestly consider your perspective, i suggest presenting an arguement in a calm, concise way, and without the unnecessary insults against the people who oppose you. you simply have to accept that everyone has an opinion, and they are entitled to it, regardless of whether or not you agree with it. just a suggestion.

As for your hilarous health care comment. I think a JOB would fix that. Crazy notion I know.
I am self employed and I offer health care to my employees and its really not that expensive. It's a matter of if you want good employees if your self employed.
