Hi, I'm from west-central Ohio.

My ex knows a lot about these things and she said that when her oldest turned thirteen, he was then legally old enough to start babysitting, but it's supposed to be for for no cash. I don't understand the logic of that part of it. Who would ever babysit for free and do a good job, and why should they? Just for free food and things they have at their own house anyways? I don't think so. I was a kid once, too.

We only wanted her son to watch his younger brother and sister, and that's all he wanted to do, anyway. We decided to "break the law" and pay him in cash, thinking he would be more responsible and happier about doing it this way. We thought we'd finally not have to look elsewhere for a babysitter, but such was not the case, sadly.

We came home and the house was completely trashed and there was evidence that he, or maybe all three, had had a party on his babysitting money. There must have been at least a dozen kids, we decided from looking through the trash.

So we went back to using sixteen-year olds and older again. We got much more dependable help that way, and we could go out without worrying all night long. I'm sure some thirteen-year olds are far more mature and dependable than her son was, so I don't blame all junior teens in general. We just went with the older ones because it seemed like in this small of a town, her son would likely be friends with a babysitter that was just barely older than him. We decided that somebody at least three years older could be trusted to put her foot down instead of just joining in the party. As far as we knew, we were right.

I forgot to mention that you can't stay past ten at night on school nights, with a twenty-hour maximum per week, including weekends. That's probably more hours than you'll want to work if you're just starting out, anyways, but I thought I'd better mention it. I don't think you're supposed to stay past one a.m. on weekends unless you're a family friend and you have a separate room to sleep in, too. At least that's the way my ex used to do it. Sometimes we didn't get home until almost three, then we gave our babysitter the option of going home or staying. If she stayed, we tipped her with extra cash and gas for her car. We didn't want anyone driving home all sleepy.

Good luck! I sure hope you don't wind up having to watch heathens like her kids! If you do, use that phone number the parents give you. That's what it's for, and you may get a nice tip and steady employment that way. It will be easier on you, too.

Once again, good luck!

There is most likely no legal age to babysit. It's more about how old you are when other people consider you responsible enough to care for their children. If you want to become a babysitter, then you should take time to learn skills and demonstrate responsibility in order to persuade others that you are ready for such a job.

For sometime a week it won't be that plenty. I stay in Ohio, yet i haven't had to seek for a babysitter in a on a similar time as. i comprehend that alot of people are in basic terms doing weekly costs. in the event that they grant a 7 day artwork week that's what they value reguardless on how often the youngster is there. it may alson matter on the place you reside too.

there is no legal age at which you can babysit. But most parents won't hire someone unless they are 12 or older, depending on the age of the children that need babysat.

Without pay it is 13

If you are being paid, standard labor laws pertain so not till you are 14 and not after 10 PM on a school night and no more than 20 hours a week (legally)
