Now that Porsche announced the 2007 Boxster S will be getting the 3.4L engine (like the Cayman S) there will be very little difference in performance. It will come down to personal preference and usage.

I currently have a 2002 Boxster S and LOVE it!!! However, I purchased the car in spite of the convert, not because. My main goal was a true mid-engine sports car. The choices were minimal: Acura NSX (too much $$$), Toyota MR2 (not enough power) and the Boxster.

If I were to walk into a Porsche dealership and have my choice of a 911 (non-S), Cayman S or Boxster S, I would be driving home in a Cayman S. I love the way a mid-engine car handles and the coupe would be MUCH stiffer than the convert (which is already pretty stiff!).

Do I like the Convert.... heck yeah, but since I like to track my car and listen to the beautiful sound of a Porsche engine, the nod would go to the coupe which is better for both of those.

Depends on whether you want a convertible (Boxster) or hardtop (Cayman). Their mechanical components are very similar, and you can think of a Cayman as being a hardtop Boxster S. The Cayman will handle a little better and be quieter, due to the hardtop. But some people like the wind in their hair and the open feel of a roadster. Only you can answer that question.

Porsche Cayman S-Porsche built it so that it would be between the Boxster and the 911.

Cayman and the Boxster are virtually the same, put a hardtop on a boxster and you have a homemade Cayman, i would take the Boxster cause you get a convertible....the performance is pretty much the same.

cayman is a much faster car than the boxster. Its essentially a detuned 911 engine flipped around the transaxle. Unless you absolutely want/need a convertable (which you dont because youre asking the question), get the cayman.

The Cayman is an advanced version of the Boxster...plus it looks light-years ahead of the Boxster...

It looks better than my 911...

I have owned 5 911's for 17 years, cayman is nice but if you want a keeper get some version of a 911

test drove them both, the cayman is quicker and a smoother ride, but the boxster is convertible.
