Say, the game 1 or 2-0 and it's the top of the 9th inning. Shouldn't your lead-off guy still try to get on base for the sluggers behind him?

It's an unwritten rule in baseball...personally, I believe the situation dictates it. If your team is getting no-hit, and they are down 6-0 or a big score like that, late in the game, I do not think you should try to bunt to break it up.

If the game is close, and the bunt puts the tying run on base, then so be it.

But I believe the game should dictate that "un-written" baseball rule.

As several people have already posted, it's kind of an unwritten rule that you don't try and break up a no-hitter by bunting. Of course, every player on every team would do it if they thought it could lead to an eventual win. Nevertheless, the situation should dictate whether or not it should be done. In your scenario, the visiting team would be doing the bunting, and in some cities (Philadelphia comes to mind), this could cause a near riot, so the player needs to consider the consequences... Personally, I'd hate to see someone lose a no-hitter that way, but I'd love it if my team was the one getting no-hit and they came back to win because the bunt started a 9th inning rally...

If it's a 1-0 game I'd say yes, play to win. But if the trailing team is down by 8 or 9 runs, no. Let the pitcher earn it without giving up a clean base hit.

In that situation, it is okay if a guy tries to bunt for a hit. You have to do anything you can to set yourself up to have the tying or go ahead run come to the plate.

Sure. It's all part of the game. Of course the fans at the game probably would hate it if their team is the one pitching the no-hitter. But Ballplayers understand that you do anything to to win(without breaking any rules, of course).

If the game is close and you have a real chance of winning, I say go for it. If it is not, it is considered a faux pas to do so. That is just one of the unwritten rules of the game. May God bless and keep you.

Hell yes. This is baseball. You play to win the game! What, are you going to throw the game just to give the pitcher the no-hitter? (pun intended)

if its past the 7th inning i dont think you should bunt.

imo, at that point in the game you are being a vindictive jerk who is more interested in ruining an incredible accomplishment than winning the game.
