In the real world they do it the other way around, though...

Methane to hydrogen then use the Haber-Bosch process to combine hydrogen and nitrogen to make ammonia. Go figure :(

Ammonia is a Base and therefore can be neutralized with any type of Acid.
Which type of Acid used will determine the end product.
