To type £ you have to use "ALT 0163". On some computers it has to be done with the numeric keypad. The easiest way is to place a shortcut to the "Character Map" program on the desktop. You can select from there as I have done.

Assuming you're using Windows XP, and want to put the pound sign into a document you're working on, go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map.

Then select the font you're using, and scroll down until you see the character you want. Then click on it to highlight it, click 'Select', then 'Copy'. Then return to your document, place the cursor where you want the pound sign, right-click and select 'Paste'.

Hope this helps!
