it is a sickness. clear and simple. anything away from the ordinary is caused when someone is lacking something: friends, attetion, love, care from parents. in turn, they they seek what they are missing in an alternative lifestyle, ie. homosexuality or goth.

We don't know. I am sure it is not an illness, as it isn't caused by breathing bad air. There are two theories as to the cause. Once is environment. This belief is that the area and what you are exposed to (more homosexual people, etc) makes you that way. The second theory is that it is genetic, but it hasn't been proved yet, but they are working on this to see if it is genetic or not. We've only mapped the human genome in the last 4 years or so, so it does take time. The other is that it is a personal choice.

In the DSM-III (American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Ed.3) Homosexuality was deemed a mental illness with unknown etiology. With the DSM-IIIR (revised edition) homosexuality was no longer defined as a mental illness. But homosexuality has several related adjustment disorders associated with it.
Abomination comes from an Old testament biblical reference in Leviticus. There are New testament references to homosexuality as well. Many of these were Paul's condemnation of the Roman hedonism where men were sleeping with boys and Roman was clearly a debaunched society.
I think the abomination is a warning of excesses.
Whether or not homosexuality can be found to have a physically etiology it is definitely a mental and a social varience.
Many homosexuals have came out of the rise in feminism in the world. Is there a correlation between a rise in feminine power and desmasculized men and masculized females? In all likelihood because the parallel exist the effect exists.
I think there are true homosexuals. These people have every bit been born as they are. I think some people are built and born different.
Conversely, I think some sexual behavior is a variation from norms because of some idea of perversion and is what Paul reeled against in his letters to the Romans.
Common sense lacks in the arguments about homosexuality. You have crazies like Fred Phelps on one end of the spectrum and gay pride parades on the other.
What bothers me is the fact is vocal homosexual advocates push their agenda INTO our culture to elevate gays as a special group as we've done to race relations. I think this not right.

Your having part of the name of one of my friends and then asking this question in this way makes my skin crawl and makes me so glad he is in Canada now -- and thus safe.
Regardless -- no, homosexuality is not an illness. Actually there is a great deal of scientific evidence that it is inborn. Beyond scientific evidence there is anecdotal evidence.
The fruit fly study is actually fairly conclusive. But the pheremonal and eye blink studies are also compelling. I've included links below for those that are interested. Beyond that, research increasingly suggests that at least for males, Xq28 is the crucial gene. I am saddened by this, because I believe that once it is proven, gay people will be wiped out -- and I think that is sad, because given the number of species in which homosexuality exists (see Dr. Bruce Bagemihl's book "Biological Exuberance" from St. Martin's Press) I think it serves a purpose.
In addition to scientific evidence is the anecdotal evidence. I never in my life had any sexual feeling for a female -- nor any romantic feelings. I have had romantic feelings for other males since 8. I figured out it was sexual at 11 and came out at 14. I never felt anything for girls, neither do other gay males I know. Some boys manage to suppress it for a time, but when it comes out they admit to having always had the feelings. Likewise for bisexuals, although bisexuals always have feelings for both, and therefore are capable of choice -- for real. Gays are no more capable of choice than straights are.
No serious scientist I know (and I know biologists, bio-geneticists, biochemists, chemists and various medical specialists) believes, even for an instant, that there is ANY chance that homosexuality is not natural. Likewise, I know of no medical person, out of all the ones I know, including two senior colleagues who are psychiatrists, who believe it is an illness.
On the other hand, extreme religiousity, of whatever type, shares many symptoms and a major effect with drug abuse and schizophrenia. In addition, the types of religion that condemn others and call them abominations are based on unquestioning obedience to bronze and early iron age scriptures replete with thousands of provable scientific, historic and mathematic errors and are a pathetic excuse for reasoning in the modern day.

Reyn

It is not an illness. It is desiring someone of the same sex. I believe that it is inherent in a person from the day that they are born, just like a person who prefers to stay to themselves and is introverted. It's abomination in your eyes but it is just another piece of what makes a person to others. It's not right or wrong, it just is.

Homosexuality is not an Illness, it is a Normal variation.
The people who consider it an "abomination" should simply walk away from it if it disturbs them that much.

First off your bias is showing so clearly you are not asking this seriously. If you wish to lie to yourself or to others about your questionable honesty, go ahead, just don't do it here, we have enough to deal with without your kind.
Adding to your questionable intellect is your use of older science. Believe it or not science evolves and grows as new information comes to light. Now granted, for someone like yourself or 'figato' for that matter, it is probably very difficult for you to understand because you both clearly have....how shall I put this.......a learning deficiency, no doubt caused by Mom and Dad being brother and sister.
Did that seem hostile to you? do you know when someone is being hostile to you? I know I do, and that is what you are when ask this dishonest question. If you don't like gays fine, you don't have to, but by God you will respect our right to live, love and exist. If you think we are simply going to go to the gas chambers willingly, think again. NEVER AGAIN!

First of all He does not HAVE TO EXCEPT homosexuality, I become VERY upset when ppl feel that everyone should except it, Now in American it is your right to express yourself sooo take that right and run with it, You don't have to like homosexuality don't feel like you do, Like I tell ppl that want to blame me for any other Muslims actions, Express yourself its your right. So leave him or her the ALONE, IF he anti cool if hes gay cool, Stop with double standard's I accept ppl for who they are, Not who they sleep with, But when you think you can turn me gay and start sexually harassing me then it becomes a problems ( twice this happened) Taking your question seriously it depends on the way that you look at it. I believe it can be, Sodom and Gomorrah I think they were very ill and no medication could help them. They would just rape and assault anyone, Men raping men and young male children and the Women doing the same. Now Homosexuality is becoming more accepted, more ppl feel it is okay but some ppl try often to fix it. I have seem shows where ppl got help in becoming NON GAY?? whatever. I think from a ex gay(?) that it is an more of an addiction, because he could not control his urge and he felt it was a disease for him. Your right a human being american or not is to believe what your believe and you dont have to accept homosexuality, you dont have too, but my advice is always be respectful and leave the judgement of heaven and hell to Allah
