Why?

For me I am 29, attended Catholic School from K-12. My schooling was inferior to public school becuase of the poor technology, minimal educational programs, and spent too much time doing religious education and church.

I am 23 years old. I attended private school from K-9 and public school from 10 - 12.

I think that I was sheltered from too much real life in private school but I also think that I was exposed to too much in public school.

I don't think that my education would have been better if I had attended a public school for all 13 years of schooling. I had classes in my private school that taught me much more than the classes at public school. I was also further in my learning when I entered public school my sophomore year than other students in my class.

I'm 30 years old. I attended public school K-8 and then Catholic school for 9-12. I had a very good experience in high school - the education was much better than the local public schools, the expectations of the students were higher, and the smaller school environment was very good for me. The down side was that there were A LOT of rich families and I saw a lot of money being needlessly thrown around. (I think that's a symptom of wealth - I worked in a rich city once and saw the same stuff at the local public high school.)

I attended a Christian (Baptist...though they claimed non- denominational) school 5th-12th. I do find that I did not get as good of an education as I could have in a public school, they spent too much time comparing everything to the bible and we really didn't learn much. I agree with you, too much time on religious edu & church and not enough time on actual schooling. Another thing that I have noticed with my private school and others is no vocational type classes, like wood shop, metal shop, etc. My younger brother (who is still in highschool) transfered out of the private school we were in (he was there 1st-9th) and is now getting a much better and well rounded education.

I think your experience is pretty much the rule. I'm 54 and attended and have been a career teacher in the public schools. The exception might be in inner city public schools which also suffer from the things you listed. There is another option out there- the independent private school.

22-public school....I think that public school would be better. I have known people who went to periocial schools and they say that it really don't prepare kids for the real world....to much time on religous studies and not on the things that people need to know to survive in the real world.....I am not saying that studing religion is a bad thing...but not getting the skill to work with and deal with things that are not of a religious nature can make a persons life very difficult....no matter how much faith they have.

I went to a public, but we were not disrespectful thugs like kids are today. Catholic school for discipline.
