What kind of shoes should I wear with shorts?

I have white New Balance crosstrainers, but I feel like a Florida retiree in them even though they're comfortable. I'm 51, male, good shape.

Good call on the New Balance. you definitely don't wanna sport those as day-wear unless you're out running on the beach!

The kind of shoe you would need will depend on the type of shorts you have and where you are wearing them... check out the sport sandals on landsend.com. They have some cool stuff there. Or even a sporty more hip sneaker (which they also have on landsend) ...but check out the sale section on jcrew.com, too. They have a couple pairs of flip flops that may work for you. There is a pair of red ones that may be a nice "punch" to a summer shorts outfit. Hip, but not overly trendy.

you may even be able to get away with a cool vans slip on shoe... (go to urbanoutfitters.com -- mens shoes -- slip-ons) Also check out their sandals and casual shoes. You're sure to find something that fits your taste ... and you surely won't feel like a Florida retiree :)

I would say that you could wear those shoes with shorts. It might make you feel less like a Florida Retiree if you wear short socks with them. The kind that go right along the shoe line (by/below your ankles).

You should wear tennis shoes(your white New Balance crosstrainers)with shorts because if you try wearing dress shoes with shorts,they'll clash.

I'd try sandals. Not girly ones but tan ones or a neutral color. If you want sneakers I'd try something NOT WHITE but something like black with navy accents or something. White is usually not a good choice, they get dirty easily and people automatically look at white shoes as opposed to a darker color which compliments what you wear.
