because it's wireless...if i don't put a key/encryption on it then anyone in my apartment can use my internet service that I'm paying for!

You need to configure your linksys router. Bring up a browser and enter the following ip address: 192.168.1.1 This will bring up the linksys configuration page. It will prompt you for a userid and password. Since it is your first time, I believe the userid is a blank (empty space) and password is admin. If this is not correct, then take a look at your documentation from linksys. It should have something on configurating the router and the default password/userid. Once you are in, go through the sections and there is a area to set up WEP. Use this and set your other laptop or pc to use the WEP acces to the router. Good luck.
