I have decided that a career for myself is where I want to go now. My job laid off the entire staff with 4 days notice and I figure now is the time to follow my dream of working for myself. I think that Real Estate will allow me the flexability to be a mom and work and make my own schedule. Did anyone become or know anyone who has become an agent recently; and know the pro's and con's?

yes, can you live without a steady paycheck? if you have a spouse or someone else that you are living with, it will be easier. i tried it on my own with no other sourse of income and failed miserably. check out the market in your area, too. its not as easy as it sounds, but if you do well, you can do really well! good luck

Well last year I my cat had disappeared and I saw it coming across the highway(it was a non-aggressive ball of fluff Siamese cat with emerald and sapphire like eyes) and a real estate agent in a yellow hummer actual speed up and hit the cat maybe 4 feet away from me. and the way we got that cat was by saving him from a Rottweiler which had him in its mouth, I clubbed the Rottweiler with a fallen tree branch and it let go. promise you'll never do that as a real estate agent don't become corrupt with power.

you may think that its flexible but once you get clients they will ask to see you at certain times like after 5 on weekdays on their is often weekend work, open houses and showings

pros-get to meet alot of people and can make alot of money.

maybe i would try to work for someone else first to get some experience because if you go in blind you will prolly fail at it.

have you taken any real estate classes and do you have a real estate license in your state yet?

The money is really good, but you could work for months on a sale and still not get the sale. You have to be patient, have lots of clients going at one time, and have money saved up to live off of before the sale hits.

I knew a woman who did it, and made major $$$. She seemed to like it. I would think it helps if you have an interest in architecture and interior design, and a sense of aesthetics. Combined with some business sense, but that can be learned.
