i have been having problems getting a agp card to work,i am fairly good with computers and understand all device management, and drivers, ect
i have quite a old motherboard(sis730),which i used to build a p.c from different parts,,,,sis730 mobo(socket A) , 120 gb hdd , amd athlon 1.8ghz processor , ati radeon 9250 pci-bus 128mb card 512 sd ram
i have managed to locate all the drivers i need network driver, sound driver, ide driver. and also the agp driver
now my question is do you need a agp driver to use a agp card, and if so how do you install your card with this driver
do you install the driver first and then the card,or vice versa
the agp driver i have found has no name on it,it just says "sis agp driver whql"
any ideas

If your running XP then it should auto detect it. If you are connected to the net it should give you the choice to find the drivers on line and it will automatically search for them. If there is a problem with the AGP port then it will show in device manager which is in the control panel under system. If there is a problem with the agp remove it and restart the computer so that it detects it again when it restarts and make sure your connected to the next and it should find the right drivers for it again also allow it to search you computer as the drivers might already be on it. Good luck oh and any problems not being able to see use safe mode by pressing f8 before the windows loading screen appears

The SIS APG driver is for the SIS chipset to work with the slot/port not the video card. You need to install that first. Then the video card driver. The standard VGA driver will work fine until you get the ATI driver installed. Be sure to run the ATI driver setup and do not use the windows install wizard to install.

Install the card first. It will work as a VGA only card without any drivers (640x480 pixels, 16 colours). Then, once you have done that, plug your monitor into the ati card and boot the computer. For the moment it will be displaying in rubbish VGA resolution. Install the drivers that you downloaded. You will be prompted to reboot and your computer will restart displaying high resolution. You can then use the utilities that came with the driver to change the display settings to your taste. Good luck :-)

The SIS driver will not work for the ATI Radeon card. You need the ATI Radeon driver for that card. You can install the card first, then the driver. All video cards default to basic video mode (VGA) to enble the installation of drivers.

install the card and windows will find a driver for it once you have the screen up and windows working insert the disc you have the driver on open device manager select your card and click update driver

if its on your desktop get the driver update to look there first

or you could open the file with the driver in an run the install from there

I don't use AGP drivers, and I would certainly not use one with that name.

Make sure the AGP card is good for you AGP slot. IF you buy a new one it night not work. Your card might go up to agp 4x, but you didn't specify exactly HOW old it is. So you might risk it with an agp 8x card.
