The alt key combos are tricky.

Just do this to get a visual symbol.
Go to Start Menu, the Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, and then click on CHARACTER MAP.

You will get a popup of these digital characters. Just scroll down to the black heart and then click SELECT button. Then click on COPY and then use CTRL-V (at the same time) to paste it to anywhere you want on the screen.
