This appears because either your PC is switched Off and only your monitor is running, or because your monitor isn't correctly connected to the PC...

Does your computer use an external graphics card ?. Such errors occur when graphic cards are not detected as the monitor signals come through these cards. The card is either bad or there is some loose connection. My friend had a similar problem he just cleaned the card and connected it again and the problem was solved.
However this could just be a loose connection to the monitor as suggested by others.
So, unless you have on-board graphics controllers like in Intel 845 motherboards and others , its probably the graphics card that's the problem .

Make sure the cable connected to your videocard is propperly connected. Now you need to check at both ends (the one that goes into the monitor as well).
Now your monitor has power, you jsut need to plug the other cable properly.

This usually means you don't have your monitor plugged in. Make sure all the cables are properly plugged in and also check for any bent or missing pins on the cables.
