Because your body already knows what is going on. The first time you were pregnant your body didn't have a clue what it was supposed to do at first. Now it knows and is doing what it is supposed to do.
There is a small chance that you are further along then you think.
Right know what you are probably noticing is your intestines are stretching and it is making your tummy protrude.
The good news is that you should gain less weight than your last pregnancy, but it will be harder to get back to your normal weight.

You could possibly be further along than you originally thought - an ultrasound will be the best way to answer that question. But also, you have to remember, this being your second pregnancy, you are going to show a lot faster, probably gain a little more weight than you did the first time & probably get bigger with this baby. Everything has already been stretched out from the first pregnancy & remember that muscle tissue does have memory, so you're going to pop a lot quicker than you did the first time.

Sounds like your first may not have been that long ago. Mine did the same thing. Don't panic! You start showing sooner with the 2nd, but things progress just as normal. It won't be until the end that you feel possibly heavier than the first one. Every woman is different, especially with the 2nd. No two pregnancies are alike, so expect nearly everything about this one to be different from your first. The problem is that your stomach muscles have not really had a 'sufficient' amount of time to go back to its normal elasticity. No clue how long that takes, but apparently 2 years isn't always enough lol. There is so much stretching of your skin and muscles that it takes a lot for it to all go back to where it was orginally, but as my mother had warned me .... your body will never be the same again no matter what. If any woman is lucky enough to go back, then she got something special and she better be pretty damn gratefull for that luck! But trust what your doctor tells you, not the sonogram tech, or anyone else. Your doctor knows what he/she is talking about.
Congrats!

for some women it is perfectly normal to notice that your tummy sticks out or that you look bloated. after having one baby the muscles relax easier as well as the bowls can protrude more making you look further along then you are. This is my third pregnancy and I am 20 weeks I look more like26 at least! ha ha ha

Could be any one of three things:

1. Bloating (as you know, very common in pregnancy esp. early on and it can make your tummy look like a balloon)
2. Second pregnancies pop out sooner, MUCH sooner than you might expect
3. Multiples (twins)

At your next checkup they can check on the possibility of multiples when they listen to the heartbeat (about 9-10 weeks)

no if the blood test says your 5 weeks then u are. but usually the second time around your belly gets bigger faster. it because your body has done that before so it grows faster. Congrats.

Maybe you are just gaining weight and that is where you tend to gain it. Typically you do not show until much further on, and even then it is in your lower abdomen, as that is where the baby is!
Even when I was carrying high, it didn't show up there until my second trimester.
