I spent 5 years working as a contractor in London hospitals.
The people who allocate the contracts out ask for bribes to give out the tenders.
They skim NHS money to feather their own nests and the Hospital staff have more managers than doctors and nurses.

ACharring Cross hospital in Fulham is very bad. Cleaners sleeping in toilets and estate staff getting contractors to build them house extensions so that it does not show up in the books.
They need to put more money into equipment and the ward staff.
It takes a special person to be a nurse.

Money for the NHS is sadly channelled into the wrong areas. Immigrants are putting a strain on our health service and people who should be recieving urgent treatments are sidelined. We need some drastic and practical reforms made to our health system and people should be made to pay for things like boob jobs and sex changes. Immigrants who come into this country should also be made to pay for their treatment. Children, the elderly and the chronically ill should be our priority.

I also worked for a London NHS trust for some time and whilst I didn't hear anything regarding the tender process, I know that a great deal of money was wasted because of the demands of some of the doctors.
They insisted on using certain equipment or consumables because it was the brand they were used to or used in training. Even though we could often find them a cheaper version that would do the job just as well.
Doctors used their position to create problems for staff in a buying position until they got their own way.

Working in the front line as a doctor, I personally don't see where the money has gone to. Part of the wastage has certainly gone to poorly negotiated contracts for GP, where they work less for more money. Some goes with consultant contracts. Then there are money wasted on hiring locum (temporary) staff to cover wards. There are managers who manage other managers who manage yet more managers who manage how many pieces of toilet paper we are allowed to use to wipe our bum. There are NHS funded operations in the private sectors to meet government targets. There are new minor injuries unit that is supposed to decrease the workload of A&E. The list goes on.
Now that most Trusts are in the red, leading to more staff cut etc, this would only means less efficiently run wards, theatres and A&E, meaning more locum staff to cover sickness. Less operations done as we have less staff, leading to more being done in private sector to meet target which means more money spent. Ultimately making way for private sector to move in and take over the NHS.

I know that lots of money is spent by GP's on prescribing drugs for patients so that they can get extra points on their practice. For example, old people who have had hip fractures are automatically prescribed calcium supplements, and anyone with high cholesterol are prescribed statins. This looks good on the GP's records but its a waste of money, as the calcium supplements are too horrible to take, and the statins could be replaced by education on better diets.
