I am planning on emigrating to the US in a few years and want to get a US bank account set up so I can start saving $$'s to pay any of the miscellaneous charges that may occur before I purchase a property.
I'd like to be able to set up a direct debit to it from my UK account
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start with this?
cheers

At Citibank here in the U.S. you can open a bank account denominated in another currency. Call your bank there in the U.K. and ask them if they can open a USD demoninated bank account.

When I was looking to do business in India, Citibank said I could open a Rupee denominated account. Basically, when you deposit funds, they do the currency exchange and then deposit the money in the currency you wish.

The number of Citibank UK is (44 207) 508 8000. Give them a call and check it out, see if they can do that for you.
