I think cost of living is relative. While prices in NZ may be less expensive than where you are, income is probably less too, and likely balances out. As I understand it, work is scarce in NZ and one need be fairly well-off to begin with to consider emigrating there.

working from experience
Housing -(dependent on location Auckland vs London)cheaper
Gas -cheaper
Wages on conversion approximately the same
Food about the same after conversion (fruit and vegetables cheaper in NZ)

Yes it is i spent a couple of months over there and it is alot cheaper.
