Please include why they go to lockerooms instead of going home to change? Also, are they really showering naked PUBLICLY and is it mandatory in every school? Again, are you shy when you shower in front of others?

In my school it wasn't mandatory, but if you didn't shower you'd stink, so almost everybody did. It's a little uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it quickly.

I'm responding because I hope this is a serious question:

No, American male students are no longer required to shower in school locker rooms. In the past, it was mandatory for hygiene purposes. Today, with all the sexual harassment and abuse scandals, showering is not mandatory.

However, it is advised especially for school athletes. And if the students have a particularly sweaty class and need to go to another class afterward, they should shower.

Schools vary on their showering policy.

At most schools in our area, for example, female students are NOT allowed to use the showers anymore. They must go home to shower. It might be the same for the boys now, but I'm not sure.

I can understand your concern. Most kids are shy about this.

When I was in school, a million years ago, it was mandatory for everyone to change in the locker room before class and shower afterwards. Of course the boys and girls were in different locker rooms! I never figured out what the big deal was.

Well, you can't go home and shower if you have PE in the middle of the school day. Everyone else has the same parts as you so no one would be really shy.

Well, you don't *have* to.
If you feel that uncomfortable then don't.

High School is supposed to help you realize that you are growing up & this is some of the stuff that may happen. If anyone picks on you for any reason, or makes you feel uncomfortable, then report it. But, I hate to tell you, you have the same stuff anyone else in that shower has...nothing new in that department...

You sound very shy. This has been happening for years and years. Remember, the other kids feel just as embarrassed as you.
