Everything in the entire universe is moving. The big bang injected unimaginable energy into our universe. Energy is defined as that ability to move things or cause a change. Therefore, when energy was injected into our universe (as mass-energy) that put everything into motion.
Even things that seem motionless to you are still in motion relative to some other reference point. Earth moves around the sun, the sun moves around the center of the Milky Way, the MW is moving away from other galaxies, and the universe itself is expanding. Motion is the natural order of things in our universe because of the big bang.

You have asked one of the teasing question of space and universe. the reason of earth revolution and rotation are as follows:-
1) billions of years ago, earth was a part of the sun...that was a huge fire ball. there was sudden change in the fire ball....the various chemical reactions and the gases caused it to explode.
2) this is how the planets were formed....this also explains why big planets are in the middle and smaller ones near and far away.
3) as the fire ball was rotating before the explosion (due to big bang) the pieces of the fire ball too revolved around it....due to the gravity of the sun in the centre.
4) earth being one of the planets was thrown away with a force....earth moved away from sun with a great speed but had to stop because of the gravitational pull of the sun(newton's first law). the result was that the earth began to revolve around the sun......do you know.....the sun rotates around itself.
5) scientists use the same phenomena to launch sattelites in space. this is also called as zero gravity point.
read newton's first and second law for more understanding....
hope you got my point.

As the matters in the primordial mass created out of interaction for zillions of Years, among the invisble building blocks of matter and the energies that were and are present in abundance , condensed due to the extreame cold condition prevailing in the space , the density of the conglomerated mass increased infinitely great . As the density increased infinitely , the pressure among the molecules and atoms in the primordial matter incrased the friction among them . The friction resulted in producing heat that became the detonator for the Big Bang . All these happenings are exactly in comformity with the natural physical laws known to us already. The explosion caused by the heat generated by friction set off a nuclear explosion and the universe was born with the nuclear explosion ! ( Gita - Viswa roopa as described by Arjuna in the batle feild )The matter got dispersed in all directions. Since the space is empty and there is nothing and no force to intrfere with the movement of the scatered matter , the galactic matter continue to diperse with the same speed at which they were thrown apart by the Big Bang . The movement is according to the laws of motion . Since the big masses of matter have mutual forces of atraction , now the scatterd mass is subject to the fhis force ( gravitational force ) any matter that is pushed or thrown away form a point moves only with a spin and this spin is caused by themovement of the body in the direction of the thrust .The bodies in motion, though have a tendency to move in the direction of the force of the initial thrust , come under the infuence of the gravitational force of adjecent bodies and so their path of movement is affected by the two forces , that is the intital force of thrust and the the subsequent gravitational force of the othr body . So the body that is smaller in size starts going around the bigger mass in the direction of the resultant force, continuously . And this keeps th ebody moveing around the bigger body perpetually since the movement of the smaller body with the velocity of the thrust and keeps it in the direction of the thrust and the gravitation force of the bigger body keeps pulling it towrds itself . As both the forces are action with out interference from any other force , the smaller body is in perpetual motion around the bigger body. The vaccuum helps to maintain this movement for ever . Even if any gas were present in the path of movement of the smaller body , the motion of the smaller body will get affected over a period causing it to fall into the bigger body because of the gravitational pull of both the bodies. Gravity - ( the mutual attraction of the sun and the eath) , the speed of the intital thrust of the Earth given by the Big Bang at its birth and throw from the primodial mass of matter, the mutual gravitational forces of the earth and the Sun and VACUUM , keep the planet earth and all the planets go around the sun perpetually.. The very important role of vacuum is genreally ignored .. That is the only thing that prevents resistence to the two forces from any other matter visible or invisible and keeps the bodies to act on themselves without interference ,in perpetual motion. It is in everything and every thing is in it and every thing acts because of it ad it is not by itself an ACTOR .So great is space .

The movement of earth is a natural thing. It is how life goes on here. I don't know why but ttehre planets seem to know what we are thinking.

To survive from the sun. If it doesnt move it will crash in to the sun. Where does this got the motion. When its mother star exploded this piece of junk was thrown out. That is where it got its motion.
