Yes, your temperature should drop when you start your period, or possibly alittle before. The change in horomone levels causes this to happen. If you notice that your temperature remains about at the level it was where you ovulated or goes even higher, it most likely means that you're pregnant.

usually before you ovulate your basal body temperature is anywhere from 96.5-97.5 or so. When you ovulate your temperature will mostly likely go up a degree. Usually 98 or higher.Your temperature will stay high until the day of your period in which it will drop back down to normal.
