Listerine Alternative

salt water gargles are useful for some things. listerine is, primarily, ethyl (drinking) alcohol, which both kills germs and, er, freshens the breath, in its way (any cheap vodka'll do, but, then, of course, you'll smell like cheap vodka - i don't know what you're trying to accomplish). alternately, you may try small amounts of the oils used in listerine (eucalyptus is the one that comes to mind). these are very powerful, though, so be careful with 'em. think in terms of drops. tea tree oil has similar properties, but you may find the taste more to your liking. simply to get rid of bad breath, brushing (including the tongue, and the soft parts of the rest of the mouth, aside from your teeth) and flossing mustn't be ignored, to say nothing of their health value. finally, parsley, or a wedge of lemon, may be chewed, for a quick breath fix.

Gargle salt water and (im not joking). Stick your tongue out and say "ahhhh". When you do this try to make your throat vibrate. This is a trick my mother in law taught me. When you do this it helps bload flow to the throat and for some reason makes the soreness go away temp. IB Proufen works really well for sore throats because it is an anti-inflamatory so; it reduces pain and swelling. One thing you could do if you have health insurance is....make a quick pit-stop into your local Urgent Care. Most likely it is a sinus infection. They can prescribe Z-Pack to you and it kicks in after about 24 hours typically. You should feel better quickly. Feel better and have a good holiday.

Listerine is a phenol based mouthwash. There is nothing to my knowledge that will replace that. You could try looking for other mouthwashes that are phenol based, but I think Listerine is the only phenol based mouthwash on the market. The phenol is the active ingredient and it should not be ingested, so I don't think that you could get that in fruit or herbs.

Listerine, being a mouthwash with alcohol in it (and alcohol is made from sugars) is actually bad for your teeth. If you want to kill germs use Colgate Total toothpaste.

Listerine is a mouth wash?? Why don't you just buy a different type of mouthwash?

Listerine is pretty natural as it is... the yellow liquid's formula hasn't changed in decades.

But I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish... killing germs in your mouth? Brush often... floss... and rinse with water, or water suffused with mint leaves...

Well you could always try rubbing alcohol, it may not be the safest thing, but it will kill most types of bacteria, even better than listerine.

Crest makes a mouthwash with no alcohol that tastes better and doesn't burn at all. And it's proven that it kills the same ammount of germs as listerene.
