According to Christian doctrine, all men (humans) are flawed and all men (humans) sin. Thus, all "TRUE" Christians are flawed and all "TRUE" Christians sin.
If that woman believes Christ was born the messiah, died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead, she is a "TRUE" Christian, regardless of her flaws, sins, choices, interpretations of scripture, other beliefs/opinions, hatred, lifestyle, morals, actions, deeds, integrity, judgements, etc.

I think that kind of an attitude is wrong, and is what causes racism in the first place.
Who is to say that Christians decide who is right and who is wrong, who is better and who is not... why The Bible ? Why do you presume that everything should be as Bible says.
A lot of stands in Bible (such as the one we are discussing; "All people are created the same") are not well excepted in other religions. For instance, in Muslim religion, Islam is one and only true religion. However, you don't see any Muslim people calling Christians wrong and being racist towards them (unless they are provoked first of course)
I shell not go on with examples and so on.. because there is no need to do something of that sort. So I just employ you to try to lessen your moral set of values and try to understand others not just by saying, we are all the same, because we are not. We as a human species are not the same at all !!! A lot of things are different between us, our religions, our ways of thinking and doing things, also our skin colors. and we should be proud of it... but we should not say we are the SAME,,, we are only just equal, not the same... EQUAL

Racism is the same thing as hate and hate is a sin. The problem is hypocrisy. We have Christians who will take the words of the Bible and twist it around to fit their racist agenda, knowing that it is wrong to be racist. We are supposed to love everyone. That is what Jesus teaches. Unfortunately, there are people out there who are hateful. We are all made in the image of God so how could one race be iferior to another? Humans are not beasts.

I just saw a special about the nazi movement in America yesterday on tv. They talked about the leader (now dead) of the Arian Nation. He was a reverend and he interpreted the Bible in a way that was different from most people. He was very religious - he just believed that the white people were the true Israelites, Jews were the devil's children, and blacks were...I can't remember that part, but you get the idea.

Co-existance of different ethnicities is NOT wrong. I absolutely hate it when people claim to be devout Christians, then turn around and hate different ethnic groups. I know some bible thumpers that use the "n" word all the time and say terrible things about other groups. I don't get that. God wants us to love everyone like He does.

When we were told to "love our neighbors as ourselves" it was not qualified by any stipulation. God created all, and loves all and we should too. You were right to try and open that old lady's eyes, maybe God wanted you to tell her the truth. The part in the bible about species not mixing does not apply to people, we are all Homo Sapiens!! Racists have been trying to use this to justify racism for years, but it is obviously wrong and ignorant.

Actually in the Bible there are verses which racists abuse to justify their racism. I can't think of which ones at the moment, but they say something along the lines that different races/clans aren't to be mixed.
But I believe this was simply a parable directed only at a specific circumstance and does NOT apply to daily life.

i dont beleive you can be racist and christian. there's teh whole "god created us in his own vision" bit but then theres also the "love your neighbor". but the real kicker here is that song "jesus loves teh little children, all the children of the world, red brown yellow black and white, they are precious in his sight" hmmm. black and white.
its probably just because black people can sing better then white people so some of the hardcore white christians are jealous (another no-no according to the bible) of the black peoples singing abilities.
if you see her again just sing that song. thatll really shut her up.

I can not speak for the bitter old woman. I am with you on this one, and these are questions I have often asked myself as well.
Having spent most of my like growing up in a conservative southern culture, there were many around me who felt as the old woman does. I have relatives that believe as she does. It's embarrassing.
It is my belief that people with her line of thinking lack the awareness and skills to honestly and objectively look at themselves and their beliefs with an open and critically thinking eye. They feel that they don't need to, and that God is on their side. It's sad really. To claim to follow what is ultimately a creed of compassion (love thy neighbor as thyself), and yet to be consumed with such vehement hatred is a disgrace to all truth in all its forms. I only pray that we as a people, en mass, will wake up in time.
