Tighten the cap if it has turned the light on and it will go back out after driving for a little while. Just be sure that is the problem, because they can have other problems that turn the light on.

The fuel system is sealed to prevent vapors from leaking out.

It applies a slight pressure to the tank and checks for leaks that way.

With a loose cap, the system thinks there is a leak.

It might go away after a few times of starting the car, but with some vehicles it will not. They want you to return to the dealer to be certain there is no other problem as well. It shouldn't take more than a half hour to get the light turned off. They just hook up a "magic box" and erase the problem.

Next time buy an American car would you?

Thousands of American jobs depend on it, yours could be one of them....

Good luck.

What? In most cars the check engine light will come on if the gas cap is not securely fastened. What exactly are you asking?

auto zone and advance will scan for free. a loose gas cap will keep the engine from running correctly. the fuel system is under pressure. get a new gas cap.

My Saturn does the same thing. Fortunately, when I called the dealership, they told me to check that - before I came to the dealership for a check.
P.S. I love my Saturn! (it's my third)
