The libertarians don't get a chance to govern, because the system is set up for only two parties. Of course that has nothing to do with democracy at all.

Parties, in order to buy airtime and advertisement, have to ask companies for money. Companies are more likely to give to parties that have a chance to govern, in order to do something for the companies who sponsored them.

The system is corrupted and the two parties at the troffs are not willing, and will do everything in their powers not to, change that system. The two parties are actually not that much different. All they are interested in is money and power. That is all they care about. Plain and simple.

Sad, isn't it?

Because until a viable 3rd party exists, we are stuck with the 2-party system. Libertarian votes would split/weaken Republican votes thereby allowing a Democrat to win. The same holds true for the Green party; any votes they get strengthen the Republican position.

You need the lies about Democrats removed first, who many of which are actually more libertarian because of their belief in a right to privacy and personal freedoms,to enter the next cycle of Democrats winning more before you can have the LIbertarian Party as a serious political contender. As long as this country is largely controlled by the religous right-wing of the Republican party,it cannot happen.Maybe in 20-30 years.
