I'm a Home Economics teacher at my local high school. I am male. Most of the people I know, friends and family alike think I'm weird. And they call me a sissy. They tell me that my job should be left to a woman. But I really love my job. I love to cook and sew. And to teach others what I know. So what do you think? Am I weird or a sissy like they say?
I mean I have other interests too. I like to listen to music. I like to rock climb and go for hikes and camp out watch good movies. I just happen to have a job that they think is sissy

You know....actually, I don't consider cooking in a woman's field...have you looked at all the famous chefs like Emeril Lagassi, Wolfgang Puck, etc. They are all men!

So there's nothing "sissy" about that...

Whoever is telling you that is a shovenist and an idiot. I am looking to marry a man like you :) I am a woman but I don't enjoy cooking and any home job. I will do it because it has to be done but I don't enjoy doing it. But there are so many famous male chefs(actually some of the most famous chefs in the world are men) and that is really a great quality to have.

Who cares what they think. Their thoughts are not what makes you happy nor are they what pay your bills. I think it's good that a man knows how to cook and sew, and the fact that you are teaching this to other young men (and women) is commendable. They need to learn how to do things on their own, especially since it seems that gender based work is coming back (according to your question....."that job should be left to a women") Why is it okay for a women to do "a man's job" but not okay for a man to do "a women's job?" It sucks, the world is confused.

Nope, not a sissy! If my husband could cook, I would let him do it ALL!! I hate to cook! It is not because I can't, I am a very good cook, just don't like to.
I have worked in a lot of restaurants.........most of the cooks are guys!
Have fun, who cares what they think!

Your job is unorthodox for a guy, but if it makes you happy, then stay with it.

Maybe your friends just don't understand your passions. Is there anything that you can do to give them a glimpse into your world? If they saw what you see, they would lay off & stop giving you a hard time.

Are you sure you're old enough to be a teacher? You sound more like a 12 year old kid to me! Any MAN would know that it isn't what people say about him that matters, but how he feels about himself. Maybe you should be asking yourself, why you even bother listening to other people?
