I've never really paid attention to it, but I was sitting out in front of a friends apartment and there were about 6 Mexicans sitting out side. 5 of the 6 had the little mustache. One didn't, he looked younger and had his hair fixed and was wearing nice clothes. I think the others work in construction, but a couple of them were probably about the same age as the clean cut guy, and the others were more middle aged looking. Since then I've paid more attention to it, and it seems 9 out of 10 elect to keep their mustache. Is there a reason for it, or is it just a popular look?

I've known a lot of Mexican men in my lifetime (and men from other Latin American countries, and Hispanic men born in the US), and I've only known 2 with mustaches of any kind, and only one of those with a thin mustache. So, uh, it must not be that common...

Probably for the same reason that most Mexican men hiss at and make sexual comments to women, because they're trying to get their attention. In their limited way of thinking, they probably believe that their facial hair will make women attracted to them.
