I believe you can drive without it,,if you don't mind the air not working,,but,,you need to look at it real good and see if the belt was driving any other things,,like power steering or alternator,,i don't think it does on this car,,but make sure,,it wont hurt anything to not repair it Right now,,but it wont make your battery charge better,,it don't effect the battery either way,,i own a repair shop,,and we do this kind of work all the time,,good luck with it,,i hope this helps.

If all it drives is the air conditioner and you are not sweating to death without A/C just drive without it. If the same belt runs other things like a fan or power steering it is a necessity. I am not a Subaru guy so I am just thinking in terms of the Ford that I have and how it is setup.

You can temporarily drive without it as long as you don't you any of the air systems in the car. However, I believe that even the defroster in the 93 is hooked into the same system - so it is a definate safety hazard. I would be suprised that you wouldn't what to get that replaced asap because I believe the cost of the part is low - however the labor costs my be high.

ok expert answerers examine the question back... to answer, if the stress belt comes off (what maximum human beings call the serpentine or fan belt. you may stress a quick distance probable 10-15 miles, till it overheats or the battery dies, reckoning on in case you have a million or 2 stress belts. Now i will concur that if the timing belt breaks you may smash the engine, as this belt keeps the cam and crank in sequence with one yet another so in case you give up the cam that's pushed with the aid of the crank then the engine does give up rather all promptly. and might push open valves into the tops of pistons cracking pistons breaking valves and leaving you stranded. So if somebody has stated a replace and the motor vehicle has extra desirable than 50K on it. replace it. the 300 greenbacks is a small cost to pay.

you might be able to, but first you must make sure the belt wasn't running anything important. mainly the water pump, power steering, or alternator. really though changing a belt is a pretty simple process. even if you only have minimal tools it really doesn't take much. as long as you are mechanical you could have it done in less than a couple hours.

You can drive without it (as long as the belt wasn't driving any other pulleys), but obviously, you won't have AC. Either replace the belt or remove the AC compressor, as it is just dead weight.

Does that belt control anything else like the power steering or the alternator? If it does then you will need to replace it.
