I was reading an insert in my newspaper advertising "Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things" by Readers Digest. I don't want to buy the book but was wondering if anyone knows what I can wipe on windows that will prevent ice buildup. You can also put it on windows that already have ice and the ice will melt.

You can buy a can of ice melt but it only melts the ice and does not stay on the windshield to prevent ice build up.

There isn't anything that is on the market that I ever heard of that does what you want.

There are spray cans with anti icing fluid that help. You can get them in any auto parts store. They are called de-icer, of course, for a buck or so.

I am assuming that your heater is working well. If so turn the air-outlet control so that it blows fully onto the window (even if your toes get cold) and turn the heat temperature to high.

I have tried a lot of the liquid stuff that you wipe or spray on and all I have tried is a waste of money. The best thing I have found so far is a piece of plastic stretched across the glass.
