Specific answers to a very general question.
I've been published three times in two different magazines. They were 'trade magazines' meaning crafted to a specific audience -- think Guns and Cars and Arts and Cooking, that sort of deal.
Here are some pointers....
1. Remember that they are looking for people to do their work for them, so they WANT to publish you.
2. Have an opinion about the current situation.
3. Be funny (or at least sarcastic).
4. Be ready with at least two photos.
5. Be ready with a photo of yourself also.
6. "Call for Action" pieces are good -- demand that we stop being lazy or unsafe or complacent.
7. Be positive and cheerful -- show the readers the light.
8. When submitting, tell them up front it's okay to edit at will.
9. Write what you believe in.
10. Have fun with it!

I haven't, but Mom has. She is bedfast and cannot hear, so it's difficult to ask her anything. I have had poems published in collections, and I've written several books. I'm working on one now. It's a 4th edition of a book I first wrote in 1996. Some books require updates.

I wish you'd been more specific. Whether poetry or prose, there are specific guidelines set by every magazine or ezine.I also don't know which country you are from. Try to stick by those guidelines, anyway, or better still, try to see which ones your work suits. If you don't know whether your work is good enough, just think: is it really something you want to tell the whole world (or a portion of it)? Then just be bold! Good luck to you!

Many magazines have their submission policies online. Try doing a search for whatever mag you want to submit to, then check their site for submission guidelines... Other than that, I don't have much for ya. That's the way I did it. Submit, submit, submit. :)
