the other day i indulged myself in a cup of coffee. I am 5w4d pregnant and haven't had caf. in awhile. I had these fluttering feelings in my lower abdomen. I was thinking that was the baby but i had the flutterings in two different areas. did you know you were going to have twins before any sonograms? what are some early signs of twins?

Could be twins, or it could be just a little gas from the coffee. You'll have to wait until a sonogram tells you for sure.

Odds are usually about 1 in 88 births are twins. If you do in-vitro fertilization with multiple embryos implanted then all bets are off on the occurence of twins since two could easily happen to thrive among the several implanted. And of course families with histories of twins are more likely.
I wouldn't go by the number of early flutterings. You are growing a kid with feet and arms that can twitch and poke you after a while. That fluttering sounds more like indigestion.
Wait for a sonogram before going out and buying two cribs.

Yep, like the others said, it's too early in your pregnancy to feel flutters. You probably do have a higher chance of having twins than most of us. The first sign you will see if it is twins is that your tummy will get bigger faster than the tummy of someone who is carrying only one baby. Plus on a sonogram the technician or Dr. will be able to detect two heartbeats. Good Luck to you!

I think 5 weeks is too early to tell if it's twins on your own. I found out I was having twins at 10 weeks. Also if its Identical Twins in your family then your chance of twin is lower. I just got big fast and was sick as a dog morning, noon, or night it did not matter what time of the day.

If you have a family history of twins, there are more chances for twins and also after ART-artificial reproductiove therapy. You can't find out twins before sonograms. The early signs are excess vomiting, abdomen bigger than the usual size for that period of pregnancy, more varicose veins. But the earliest is sonogram.

i had twins two years ago... i showed really early,( at about 8 weeks i started to change shape) although i didnt feel any movement any earlier then a normal pregnancy... which you dont feel till way after 5 weeks... the best bet would be to wait for the sonogram... good luck whichever way it turns out... and some extra good luck if you are pregnant with twins, believe me you'll need it :D because it is certainly true 'double the love, and double the trouble'

5 weeks is waaaay too early to feel the baby (or babies) moving. You won't start feeling it until at least your 4th month...6th if this is your first pregnancy.
With your family history, it's probably a good chance that you'll have twins. I really hope you get what you're looking for. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Quoted from www.babycenter.com
While identical twins happen by chance and occur at the same rate throughout the world, there are several factors that influence your chances of having fraternal twins:
+ Heredity: If twins run in your family, you're more likely to have a set yourself. Your partner's family history doesn't appear to affect your odds of having twins.

5 weeks is really early. I doubt you felt a flutter from the baby.
